What is Muck Away

Muck away is the process of removing spoil from construction sites. This process usually takes place at the start of the project.

The same applies during the construction process. Any waste or rubble should be removed quickly and efficiently so personnel can continue to work safely.

When a site needs clearing so work can begin, any rubble, waste or rubbish needs removing.

Muck Away waste removal

At our on-site waste recycling facility, we aim to be as meticulous as possible in handling your waste.

We sort through the collected waste and extract any materials which can be reused or recycled. By adhering to the correct guidelines and government legislation, we divert as much waste away from landfill as possible.

Not only is this practice friendly for the environment, but it's also a cost-effective solution for our customers as reclaimed materials such as brick and concrete can be sold to recover costs.

Our commitment and dedication to the environment are reflected by the way that we currently recycle over 90% of the waste we collect.

Muck Away has three main categories: inert, hazardous and non-hazardous.

What is Inert Soil?

Inert materials are unreactive, both biologically and chemically. When inert waste is disposed of, it takes a long time to decompose or doesn't decompose at all.

Inert waste does not pose a threat to human health, animals or the environment, nor will it endanger watercourses, however, large amounts of this type of waste does become an issue, due to the amount of space it takes up. Most of our inert waste is recycled and made into aggregates.

Inert waste materials are usable as a capping layer on landfill sites, restoration works and sometimes as a method of reducing noise pollution is the use of acoustic bunds. These mounds of soil usually feature at the boundary of a site, creating a barrier between a construction site and the noise-sensitive properties on the other side.

Examples of inert waste are metal, wood, bricks, asphalt or cement concrete, and other building construction materials such as plaster, drywall, siding, shingles, insulation, and glass.

What is Hazardous Waste?

Waste is considered 'hazardous' under environmental legislation when it contains substances or has properties that might make it harmful to human health or the environment.

There are many different types of hazardous waste ranging from oil containers, unrinsed pesticide containers, animal health packaging, to sheep dip, lead-acid and nickel or cadmium batteries.

There are, of course, many more hazardous waste materials. Hazardous muck must be removed by licensed waste carriers registered with the Environment Agency.

What is Non-hazardous Waste?

Non-hazardous muck away can include a collection of different waste products that are not considered to be harmful to the environment and human life.

This type of muck away consists of any rubbish or recycling that causes no harm to human or environmental health; this can be from a business or household, and it can include healthcare waste that is soiled but poses no threat to human or environmental health.
